چکیده

[1] As a part of the Atmosphere/Ocean Chemistry Experiment (AEROCE), daily aerosol samples were collected in the marine boundary layer at Barbados, West Indies (13.17 N, 59.43 W), Bermuda (32.27 N, 64.87 W), and Mace Head, Ireland (53.32 N, 9.85 W), and in the free troposphere at Izaña, Tenerife, Canary Islands (28.30 N, 16.48 W; 2360 m asl). In this report, we use multiple variable regression analyses with methanesulfonate (MSA) and Sb and/or NO3 as the independent variables to assess the relative contributions of the marine biogenic and anthropogenic sources to the total non-sea-salt (nss) SO4 2

Contributions of Atlantic Ocean to June-August Rainfall over Uganda and Western Kenya

This study investigates the contributions of Atlantic Ocean to June-August rainfall over Uganda and western Kenya (KU). The study has utilized the datasets including precipitation from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre, North Atlantic Oscillation Index (NAOI), South Atlantic Ocean Dipole Index (SAODI), ERA-interim reanalysis, and the Atlantic Ocean Sea Surface Temperature (SST). Singu...

Chemical composition of boundary layer aerosol over the Atlantic Ocean and at an Antarctic site

Aerosol chemical composition was measured over the Atlantic Ocean in November–December 1999 and at the Finnish Antarctic research station Aboa in January 2000. The concentrations of all anthropogenic aerosol compounds decreased clearly from north to south. An anthropogenic influence was still evident in the middle of the tropical South Atlantic, background values were reached south of Cape Town...

Sub-Antarctic marine aerosol: dominant contributions from biogenic sources

Biogenic influences on the composition and characteristics of aerosol were investigated on Bird Island (5400 S, 3803 W) in the South Atlantic during November and December 2010. This remote marine environment is characterised by large seabird and seal colonies. The chemical composition of the submicron particles, measured by an aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS), was 21 % non-sea-salt sulfate, 2 % ...

Microphysical and radiative evolution of aerosol plumes over the tropical North Atlantic Ocean

[1] Over the tropical North Atlantic Ocean in the summer, plumes of aerosol extend from Saharan Africa to the Caribbean. The microphysical and radiative evolution of such plumes is studied using a Lagrangian column model and measurements obtained near the west coast of Africa (during the second Aerosol Characterization Experiment [ACE-2]) and the Caribbean Sea (during the Passing Efficiency of ...

Marine biogenic source of atmospheric organic nitrogen in the subtropical North Atlantic.

Global models estimate that the anthropogenic component of atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition to the ocean accounts for up to a third of the ocean's external N supply and 10% of anthropogenic CO2 uptake. However, there are few observational constraints from the marine atmospheric environment to validate these findings. Due to the paucity of atmospheric organic N data, the largest uncertainties...
